Tirupati: PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi has inaugurated the Global food and beverages major‘s manufacturing unit at the Sri City economic zone in Chittoor district of AP on Friday in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.


The phase one of the manufacturing unit which will be catering to the South Indian market was built at a cost of Rs. 1,200 cr. PepsiCo plans to manufacture its entire range of beverages at the Sri City unit by adding sports drinks to the portfolio.


Indra Nooyi said that Pepsi might expand the newly inaugurated facility in future. “We have been investing in the Indian economy for more than 25 years and the commitment is getting stronger,” she said adding that Pepsi will buy all the Mangos grown in Chittoor district and Coconuts from Coastal AP.” Local farmers will benefit from our companies sourcing strategy from local farmers. We will make this unit as a hub for sourcing mango pulp,” she said. About 32,000 mango farmers would benefit from sourcing.


Chief Minister Naidu also inaugurated 10 industrial units being set up with an investment of nearly Rs.1,000 crore and participated in ground-breaking ceremony of Rexam, Vermeiren, Cipy Pagel, KGI Clothing, Ayurvet, Brindco, Power Gas, Concept Poly Pro, Be’ Rollex, Beva Silicones and Godawari Udyog units.


Earlier, Ida Nooyi and Chandra Babu Naidu had darshan of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala during the morning VIP break. They also took part in Swarna Radham on occasion of Annual Vasanthotsavam.
