Visakhapatnam: The CPI-M and Left parties will wait and see how the political line-up will emerge and policy direction of the new Janata Parivar, an amalgamation of various parties, said party politburo member Brinda Karat here on Thursday. While briefing media on the party’s deliberations in the 21st national Congress, Brinda, however, welcomed the coalescing of non-BJP parties. “We have to wait and see what kind of political line they would take.

Then only we can think of giving them an issue-based support,’’ she said. She said three important resolutions were moved by the members. They included declaring solidarity with the West Bengal unit of the party, demand job reservation for SC and ST in private sector, implementation of recommendations of various committees for the development of minorities, on the issues of education and against labour reforms.

Brinda said the delegates strongly condemned the attacks on the activists of the CPM and expressed solidarity with the West Bengal unit which bore much of the brunt. She said since West Bengal was the bastion of the Communist parties, the reactionary forces had been targeting the party activists to weaken the Left movement.

“The 21st Congress of the CPM salutes the 104 martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives since the last party Congress,’’ she said The party also expressed its solidarity with the courageous workers who defended Red flag, the Left Front and the Left movement in the face of unprecedented and multiple forms of violence being unleashed by the TMC.

The experiments of authoritarian regimes in different parts of the world were being enacted in West Bengal where the assault against political opponents had now expanded to intolerance and coercion against dissent, the politburo member said. The resolution was moved by Tripura Chief Minister and politburo member of the party Manik sarcar. Brinda said the party took serious exception to the discriminatory policies being adopted against the SC and ST by the NDA government.

The resolution moved by central committee member B V Rghavulu said Modi government further cut the allocations for SCs Special Component Plan and the shortfall was as high as Rs 46, 385 crore. The shortfall Tribal sub-plan was also cut short by Rs 20,000 crore. While the SCs and STs accounted for 25 per cent of total population, the share of allocations of funds for them was just 10 per cent, Brinda said.

On the issues of education, a resolution moved by Nilotpal Basu expressed concern over the attack on education at all levels in different spheres. The policy thrust of centralisation, commercialisation and privatisation was being supported by entire ruling classes and the Modi government’s sinister agenda of sdaffronising makes this toxic combination more lethal. CPM secretariat member Y Venkateswarulu was also present at the press briefing.
