But there is no response from the state government. Prabhat Kumar Sarangi, joint secretary of the department of land resources, ministry of rural development here, shot off a letter the Chief Secretary of the state, I Y R Krishna Rao (dated May 14) again, seeking a report on the status before May 25 as the matter was listed in the agenda of the National Monitoring Committee on Displacement.

It pointed out that two representations had been received by the committee and the department, one from Dr K P Krishnan on February 23 and the other from Dr P Pulla Rao, president of Forum on Social and Human Rights, complaining against the non-implementation of the R&R Act provisions properly.

Both had contended that relief and rehabilitation had not been extended to the displaced tribals despite assurances to the contrary. Recently, the Union minister, Uma Bharati, had responded in the Parliament to a query to state that the relief and rehabilitation would be implemented as per the law.
