Hyderabad: Justice M Seetharama Murti of the High Court at Hyderabad set aside the conviction of Yeleboina Mariyadaas, who was accused of having grabbed property belonging to the local church at Racherla in Prakasam district and then having the statue of Mary Matha demolished. The judge pointed out that there was a delay of twelve days in reporting the crime. “In an important matter, where it is alleged that the sentiments of one class of people are hurt, the inordinate delay which is unexplained is a strong circumstance in favour of the accused.” The judge also seriously questioned the credibility of the witnesses.
