Hyderabad: In a bid to foil the BJP-led NDA’s efforts to adopt the ‘ Land Acquisition Bill’ in the Rajya Sabha, the CPI( M) has decided to pull out its members from the JPC ( Joint Parliamentary Committee ) constituted to study the most controversial bill.

Speaking at the meet the press programme conducted by Telangana and AP Journalist Federations, party national General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said that an official announcement of the withdrawal of the party MPs from the JPC would be made in two or three days.

The main objection raised by the CPM with regard to the bill was the Union government promulgated ordinance for third time on the bill at a time when the JPC was holding talks on the controversial bill with stake-holders. It was a sort of an attack on Parliamentary practice that never happened in the history of the country, he said and remarked ‘ this is untenable and unconstitutional.’

Stating that the other opposition parties have also been requested to pull out their members from the Committee and 14 parties were already convinced, the left party leader faulted the BJP- led NDA government for approving as many as bills without evaluating its one- year- rule. It was against the Parliamentary democracy and a sign of dictatorial rule.

In a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, Yechury said the centre was more interested in pursuing communal agenda to consolidate Hindu vote bank than addressing the people’s issues. The Modi’s government accelerated economic , educational and land reforms in the pursuit of the party’s agenda only. He asserted the need to float an alternative political organisation to fight the BJP and its policies.
