A stampede like situation prevailed on Monday at Rythu Bazaars in Narsimhanagar, Kancharapalem and other areas when a large number of customers rushed in to get the subsidized onions.

The demand for onions doubled due to the low supplies even though the Government has been selling onions at Rs 20 per kg at most of the Rythu Bazaars. The situation however, led to the officials not able to meet the supply demand as a large number of consumers were left waiting in long queues at most of the Rythu Bazaars.

With the shortage of onion supply, the consumers didn't want to wait to lay their hands on the onions which caused the situation to go out of control. The officials eventually alerted the cops and announced the cancellation of the onion sale. According to the sources, the onion price reached Rs 60 per kg on Monday as huge turnouts were witnessed at the Rythu Bazaars for the subsidized onions.

The onion price increased by Rs 10 per kg in a matter of one day with one kg of Onion being sold at Rs 50 on Sunday at the supermarkets and Rs 60 on Monday. Even the price of vegetables along with the onions are skyrocketing due to the unfavourable weather conditions.
