Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said ‘Viswa Kavi' Gurram Jashuva would be honoured by setting up Jashuva Peetham at Telugu University. He said the government has been striving for the uplift of poor as per the ideals of Jashuva.
Addressing a meeting organised on the occasion of Jashuva’s 120th birth anniversary celebrations here on Monday, the Chief Minister said Jashuva is as an ideal for all generations with his relentless struggle against untouchability.
He said Jashuva’s book Gabbilam reflects the life of weaker sections in the bygone era.The Chief Minister said that he formed Justice Punnaiah Committee to eradicate untouchability.
He said that the government has been trying to provide educational facilities to children of weaker sections through residential schools. He said the budget allocations for SCs and STs have been increased.
Later, the Chief Minister felicitated noted writers Endluri Sudhakar, Sikhamani, S Sarat Jyotsna Rani with Gurram Jashuva Sahiti Puraskaram along with Rs 50,000 cash reward each.
Presiding over the programme, Social Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu said the Chief Minister has unveiled the statue of Jashuva at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here.
Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Nandigama MLA Tangirala Sowmya, Tadikonda MLA Sravankumar, former Minister Dokka Manikya Varaprasad also spoke.
Mayor Koneru Sridhar, ZP Chairperson Gadde Anuradha, MLC Budha Venkanna, Government advisor Parakala Prabhakar, Commissioner of Social Welfare G Jayalakshmi, Director of Cultural Department D Vijayabhaskar, Collector Babu A and others were present.
