There was perceptible tension among people here ever since they came to know about the terrorist attack in France which claimed over 170 lives. They contacted their relatives as well as French consulate to find out if their relatives are safe or not and felt happy when they found out that all are safe.

MLA Malladi Krishna Rao told the media here on Saturday that as per the information received from official sources, none of the kin of Yanam residents are affected in the attack in France.

According to East Godavari police authorities, they have not received any information that people of Yanam were affected in the attack. Meanwhile, people of Yanam expressed shock and dismay over the terrorist attacks in France. Basava Sindhuvelu, who retired as police officer in France and later worked as Indian Ambassador in France, expressed anguish over the terrorist attacks. Sindhuvelu, who settled in Yanam, told the Hans India on Saturday that he contacted his family members and relatives who settled in France and all of them are safe. He said that his children still live in France.

Sadanala Babu, coordinator representing France in Yanam, said that as soon as the terrorist attack was reported in the media, he immediately contacted the French consulate in Puducherry and inquired about the safety of Yanam people living in France. He said that a number of Yanam people also responded in his Facebook account and told him that they are safe. Babu said that a condolence meeting would be held at the War Memorial in Puducherry at 8.30 am on Sunday to pay respect to the people who were killed in the terrorist attacks in France.

More than 250 families from Yanam have settled in France working in various positions. Yanam is about 30 kilometers away from East Godavari district headquarters Kakinada, en route to Amalapuram. The place was under French rule when the country was under British regime before Independence.
