Challapalle(Krishna) : Claiming that Swachh Bharat Mission has transformed the outlook of Indian citizenry towards cleanliness, Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu has said the initiative was hailed all over the world.
The Union Minister was speaking at a function organised here to mark the completion of one year of Swachch Challapalle campaign here Sunday. He said the Swachh Bharat Mission in Challapalli got accolades from different quarters in the country. “Even the President praised the Swachh Challapalli mission. Since the launch of Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2 last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, many places have been competing to get good results in the implementation of the mission. But Challapalli stood out among the success stories of Swachh Bharat Mission,” the Union Minister said.
Naidu said Swachh Bharat campaign, unlike other programmes of the Centre, was challenging in taking it to the people. “While other schemes and progarmmes target the needs already felt in the mind by the people, this campaign is aimed at targeting the minds themselves. In a way, we had to make people aware of the need to keep their surroundings clean,” he explained. Notwithstanding the challenges involved in the mission, he said the Union government had succeeded in raising the awareness for clean surroundings among people of all age groups and all walks of life.
Appreciating the efforts of the members involved in Swachh Challapalli campaign, he said the village had stood out among some of few villages in the country that had accomplished the envisaged target of clean surroundings. “To my mind, it appears that the foremost reason for getting this recognition is in Challapalli, Swachh Bharat Mission has become a ‘Jan Andolan’. This is what Prime Minister Modi was wishing for. When people participate voluntarily, any programme will get this kind of extraordinary results,” he said. He congratulated Dr D R K Prasad and his team for their unrelenting efforts to make Challapalli as ‘Swachh Challapalli. (NSS)
