Puttaparti: The six-day 90th Jayanthi celebrations of Sathya Sai Baba organised by the Sathya Sai Central Committee at the Hill View Stadium ended on a colourful note on Monday with the speakers, including Governor E S L Narasimhan and Maruti Suzuki Ltd Chairman Osamu Suzuki, praising Baba’s self-less efforts for spreading love and peace, besides his welfare activities. Such efforts and services will remain in ever-lasting memory of the people, including his lakhs of devotees across the world, they stated.

The Governor was the chief guest. Among others present were Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy, Government Whip Dr B Yamini Bala, Collector Kona Sasidhar, DIG Satyanarayana, SP Rajasekhar Babu, Sathya Sai Trust representatives retired Chief Justice Venkatachalaiah, Ratnakar and Prasada Rao, MLCs Shamantakamani, G Thippe-swamy and former DGP H J Dora.

Narasimhan lauded Baba’s services in education and health and for providing drinking water to lakhs of people. He wanted everyone to ponder over why ‘none of us could do what Baba did.’ Such services should be continued by everyone, he stressed.

He praised the trust for its Seva programmes, while recalling his audience with Baba 45 years back as an IPS trainee. “Baba blessed me as I sat on the floor next to his chair, saying I would not make any mistake. That is how has been my work while discharging duty”, the Governor told the audience who included many foreign devotees.

The Governor and Palle released the trust’s annual report. President of All-India Sathya Sai Seva Organisations Srinivasan welcomed the gathering.

Earlier, 500 students led a colourful rally in the stadium, followed by Baba’s golden chariot. A helicopter dropping rose petals on the chariot attracted wide attention.
