The State government is planning to promote temple tourism in Andhra Pradesh. It was proposed to develop tourism circuits and create basic facilities at temples for visiting devotees.

With a view to improve the tourist potential of Andhra Pradesh, the State government has also notified some areas of tourism importance and they include Varaha Narasimha Swamy temple (Simhachalam), Sri Suryanarayana Swamy temple (Arasavalli), Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy temple (Annavaram), Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy temple (Vijayawada) and others.

In this connection, proposals have been sent to the government for the construction of resorts at a cost of Rs 10 crore at Annavaram. The AP Tourism Department said that the main thrust is on spiritual tourism and many old resorts too would be upgraded and beautified. The Tourism Department is also aiming at provision of infrastructure facilities and development of identified tourist places across the State.
Local TDP and BJP leaders opined that the Tourism Department should initiate measures to develop surrounding potential tourism spots including Pampa reservoir to attract tourists.
