Srikakulam: Displaced persons of proposed Vamsadhara reservoir launched relay fasts at Gotta village in Hira mandal on Sunday under the aegis of CPM.

Residents of Gotta and Subhalaya colonies prevented works relating to reservoir, spillway and diversion canal on Friday and Saturday by demanding fulfilment of assurances given by the government. In this backdrop, Hira mandal tahasildar J Rama Rao, superintendent engineer (SE) of Vamsadhara B Appala Naidu and Pathapatnam Circle Inspector J Srinivasa Rao held discussions with the displaced people.

However, the agitators had decided to continue their agitation till the assurances were addressed. After failure of discussions, the displaced persons launched relay fast on Sunday. Speaking at the agitation camp, CPM State Executive Committee member Ch Tejeswara Rao and district secretary B Krishna Murhty said that the government had assured to provide employment to local youth apart from rehabilitation and re-settlement package but it had failed to do so.
