Mediation helps reduce legal pendency: District Judge

Visakhapatnam: With an aim to reduce legal pendency in all courts and render justice to the people without delay by resolving pending cases through Mediation and Conciliation concept, the Supreme Court has been encouraging the mediation process, observed District Judge Justice V Jaya Surya.

He was addressing the members of the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee comprising 15 judiciary officials from north Coastal Andhra districts and 10 advocates from Vizag after inaugurating a five-day training programme on Friday. The two resource persons-Sunil Kumar Agarwal and Surender Singh- appointed by the Apex Court will impart training to the members in resolving the pending cases with mediation.

Justice Jaya Surya called upon the judiciary officials and the advocates to get acquainted with the tips of mediating both the parties during the training programme and to strive for resolving the pending cases with the concept mooted by the Supreme Court.

Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority Justice R V Naga Sundar informed that the ongoing training programme is part of Mediation and Conciliation Project taken up by the Apex Court. The judiciary officials and advocates, who were imparted training, are only empowered and authorised to resolve cases through mediation.

He asked the participants to try to redress the disputes of family and civil nature through conciliation. Metropolitan Sessions Judge Justice Nandikonda Narasimha Rao, Second Additional District Judge Justice U Satya Rao, Visakhapatnam Bar Association President K V Suresh Kumar, Mediation Expert R Srinivasa Rao and Special Public Prosecutor L V Ramani were present.
