Minorities take out peace rally

Members of various minorities groups in the city took out a peace rally on Friday urging for communal harmony and condemning the derogatory remarks made by the self styled president of Hindu Mahasabha Kamlesh Tiwari against Prophet Mohammed.

Visakhapatnam: Members of various minorities groups in the city took out a peace rally on Friday urging for communal harmony and condemning the derogatory remarks made by the self styled president of Hindu Mahasabha Kamlesh Tiwari against Prophet Mohammed.

The members took out the rally from Macca Masjid at Jagadamba Junction to the Collectorate where they raised slogans for peace and harmony. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Collector.

The leaders of the minorities group demanded that the Central and State government should strive for communal harmony and condemned the remarks made by the Hindu Mahasabha president Kamlesh Tiwari.

They said the government should also take action against such fringe elements fomenting disharmony in the society.

Well-known medical professional Dr Zaheer Ahemd said for centuries communities have been living in peace and only handful of people were creating a rift which should be dealt with an iron hand.

Muslim JAC president I H Farooqui, Gurudwara representative DS Anand, Reverand Jacob former MLA and TDP leader Dr SA Rehman, Rehman, Hyder Ali Chisti and representatives of mass organisations took part in the rally.
