Visakhapatnam: Members of various mass organisations, who staged a protest here on Monday, demanded booking cases on call money lenders who have fleeced money from the poor people and sexually exploited the female victims under the Nirbhaya Act.

Also demanding a judicial probe into the racket, various representatives of the organisations asked the government to recover the promissory notes, mortgage documents and property papers from the lenders.
Suggesting for a special cell to register the call money cases and sexual harassment, the leaders demanded that the political leaders should spell out their stand if some members of their party were booked under the cases.
They later submitted a memorandum to the Collector in which city secretary of AIDWA RS Madhavi demanded stringent punishment to those lenders who had exploited innocent poor women.
She told the Collector that over 100 persons lodged complaints in various police stations and it was not known how many were booked in the cases. She said the lenders took advantage of the poverty of the people as the government institutions have failed to rescue them.
A number of loans announced by the government remained only on papers as the bankers have been making the people move around them. Increase in the prices of essential commodities, education fee and unemployment were forcing these victims to land in the net of the money lenders. Leaders of CITU, DYFI, SFI and various other mass organisations were present at the protest.
