Efforts on to expand horticulture acreage

Tadepalligudem: Agriculture Minister Prattipati Pullarao has said that the Government has targeted to raise the cultivable area of horticulture crops from 16 lakh hectares to 25 lakh hectares in the State.

He was addressing the ‘Udyana Mela’ at Dr YSR Horticulture University at Venkataramannagudem village in Tadepalligudem rural mandal on Thursday.

Speaking as chief guest, the Minister said the farmers would get higher income through horticulture crops. He called upon the farmers to know the technical system developed by University professors and scientists to get higher income in horticulture crops. He said the Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, was encouraging the farmers to adopt modern technology in farming. He assured that he would initiate steps to de-notify forest lands adjacent to the University to allot 500 acres to the varsity.

Endowments Minister Pydikondala Manikyala Rao called upon the farmers to adopt the new technologies for getting high yield. Narsapuram MP Gokaraju Gangaraju, Government Whip Chintamaneni Prabhakar, Ungutur MLA Ganni Veeranjaneyulu, MLAs V Sivaramaraju, Pitani Satyanarayana, Horticulture department Commissioner Chiranjeevi Chowdary, University Vice-Chancellor Dr BMC Reddy and others spoke on the occasion.
