Visakhapatnam: Vice-President of Lixil Water Technology, USA, Dr Jim Mec Hale met Minister for Panchayat Raj Ch Ayyanna Patrudu here on Wednesday. Later, the Minster said that he would apprise Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu about usage of fibre basins replacing the porcelain basins for individual toilets.

Dr Hale was here to attend the Partnership Summit. Dr Jim Mec Hale, along with Superintendent Engineer of Rural Water Supply Scheme T Prabhakar Rao apprised the Minister about the quality and difference between the fibre and porcelain basins. They said that the cost of the porcelain basin is Rs 800 while that of fibre is only Rs 110 and with the balance amount, the households could fix tiles inside. Dr Hale informed that Bill Gates Foundation and World Toilets Association have jointly built four lakh individual toilets in Bangladesh using only fibre basins.

Superintendent engineer Prabhakar Rao said that similar basins were fixed at K Yellavaram village in Nathavaram mandal in the district on an experimental basis. Based on the public response soon after fixing the fibre basins in Anantapur district, the scheme would be implemented in other districts also, the Minister added.
