Tirupati: Rich tributes were paid to veteran Communist leader AB Bardhan, who passed away last week, at a condolence meeting conducted by the CPI district unit here on Wednesday. Cutting across party lines, many leaders including YSRCP former MLA B Karunakar Reddy, DCC President P Venugopal Reddy have recalled the contribution of Bardhan for the Left movement particularly in building up the trade union movement to protect the interests of workers and employees at large. Eulogizing the qualities of the Bardhan, Karunakar Reddy said he is a man of probity. His simplicity and honesty is unparallel, he said and recalled the crucial role of the late leader steering the party during the critical periods particularly when the coalition era became a reality.

CPI state secretariat member P Haranatha Reddy dwelled on the life and contribution of Bardhan for building up the Left movement in the country. “Bardhan, who hails from Maharashtra, was attracted to the leftist ideology when he was a student which ultimately saw him grow as a prominent Communist leader in the country,’’ he added and recalled his tireless efforts strengthen trade unions like AITUC and various employees union including electricity and telecom. CPM state committee member K Murali said Bardhan, who sacrificed his entire life for the Left movement will be a source forever to the young Communists. For various reasons, the Communist parties were weakened, he said exhorting the activists to strive for Left parties emerge as dominant force in the nation which alone will be the fitting tribute to the great leader Bardhan. CPI district secretary Rama Naidu, city secretary C Penchalaiah and others also spoke.
