Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R K Dhowan commissioned INS Kadmatt at an impressive ceremony held at the Naval Dockyard here on Thursday. Addressing a gathering of officers and their family members, the Admiral said Indian Navy will build all types of warships indigenously with a mission to achieve national objective of Make in India.

Visakhapatnam: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R K Dhowan commissioned INS Kadmatt at an impressive ceremony held at the Naval Dockyard here on Thursday. Addressing a gathering of officers and their family members, the Admiral said Indian Navy will build all types of warships indigenously with a mission to achieve national objective of Make in India.

This is the second indigenous stealth Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Corvette INS Kadmatt, built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE). “Commissioning of Kadmatt is another milestone in self-reliance of Indian Navy,” he said adding that now Indian Navy has turned from buyer navy to builder navy.

Dhowan said unique feature of the ship is the high-level of indigenisation incorporated in the production, which is about 90 per cent. Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command Vice Admiral Satish Soni said that the Indian Navy has a long association with the GRSE and it delivered first warship to Indian Navy INS Ajay in 1961.
