Kadapa: As part of improving post delivery care, the State government has launched the medical transport service for mother and newborns to land them safely at their respective houses after delivery from the government hospital. The State government has introduced the novel medical transport services christened as ‘Thalli–Bidda Express’ on January 1. The mother can get this facility with a phone call to 102. This service is only meant for those women who were admitted to the government hospitals.

The government has introduced this service in order to encourage deliveries at the government hospitals which are safe and most of them would be normal deliveries.

The government has started this project with 10 new vehicles in the district consisting of all required equipment even in case of emergency. This service provides not only safe journey to the women who was admitted to the government hospital for delivery, but also gives their family members relief as they need not hire a private taxi which are not affordable.

It evoked good response from all sections of the people in the district and many are reportedly utilising this safe dropping service from the government hospital.

Ten vehicles were provided to the district in which four vehicles for RIMS hospital in Kadapa and the remaining vehicles allotted to the government hospitals in the district, including Proddatur, Jammalamadugu, Pulivendula, Vempalle, Badvelu, Rajampet and others. This service was started to encourage the deliveries at the government hospitals, said District Medical and Health Officer Dr M Satyanarayana.

District scenario
Apart from RIMS in Kadapa- 72 primary health centres, 448 sub-primary health centres and 10 urban health centres are there in the district. According to the medical records, approximately 52,000 deliveries have been done in the district in which only 32 per cent are coming to the government hospitals for deliveries. Notably, 33 per cent are undergoing surgeries among 63 per cent who are approaching the private nursing homes for delivery.
