9 held for gambling; cash seized
Nine persons, playing cards in a house at Bommalasatram, were arrested on Thursday following raids conducted by the police under the supervision of Kurnool Range DIG Raman Kumar and Additional SP Chandrasekhar Reddy. Two cars, ten cell phones and Rs 1.3 lakh were seized from their possession.
Nandyal: Nine persons, playing cards in a house at Bommalasatram, were arrested on Thursday following raids conducted by the police under the supervision of Kurnool Range DIG Raman Kumar and Additional SP Chandrasekhar Reddy. Two cars, ten cell phones and Rs 1.3 lakh were seized from their possession.
Local DSP Harinath Reddy told the media later that the raids were conducted following information that some residents of Banaganapalle and Panyam mandals were resorting to gambling (‘Andar Bahar’) after taking up the house on rent.
The arrested persons told the police that they were playing cards as part of Sankranti festivities. The DSP stated that the police had information about the gambling for many days. A case was registered under the Gambling Act against the arrested persons. They were produced in a court, Reddy said.
