  • Coastal Regulation Zone Notification 1991, is likely to be relaxed to facilitate more projects
  • CM promises fast approval for all tourism projects

Visakhapatnam: The district has been the biggest beneficiary in the recently concluded Partnership Summit with a proposed total investment of Rs 30,000 crore and tourism getting at least Rs 2,500 crore out of it.

Another shot in the arm was the likely relaxation of Coastal Regulation Zone Notification of 1991 which was being seriously discussed by the Ministry of Environment and Forests. The ‘no development zone’ of 200 metres from the first tide could be brought down to 100 metres.

District tourism officer Dr A Sirisha told this correspondent on Thursday that that among the proposed projects, heli-tourism, would be grounded immediately as it required little infrastructure. Helicopters either based at Kailasagiri or VUDA Park would carry the tourists to Araku Valley and give them an aerial view of some of the important tourist spots in the district.

The other project is seaplanes which would also carry tourists into the skies and land them on water bodies. The project is expected to generate lot of enthusiasm among tourists. The developer assured Chief Minister at the Summit that he would complete construction of jetties at Bhimili and Kakinada within three months.

Sirisha said the routes along Andhra Pradesh’s coast were being worked for operation of seaplane services. The CMR group is coming up with Rs 500 crore worth hotel project at Madhuravada and Inter Globe and Ivory Sands are looking for suitable lands to develop star hotels along the coast.

Visakhapatnam and Kakinada, Maredumilli in East Godavari districts are among the destinations for mega eco-tourism projects. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s announcement that all the tourism projects would be approved and grounded in hours and days and not years unlike in the past, is encouraging the investors.

As many as 26 MoUs were signed during the three day partnership summit worth Rs 4,659 crore which could create15,240 more additional jobs in the State in the tourism sector. This includes plans for 33 hotels with 2,609 additional rooms.
