Tirupati: The State-level theatre festival Nandi Natakotsavalu which began here on Monday offered different genres of play and enthralled crowds who turned up in big numbers. On the fourth day, on Thursday, the Padyanatakam Rakthapasam based an anecdote in Bible presented a show different from the mythological plays staged so far in the drama festival.
The appropriate costumes, demeanour of the actors coupled with the setting took the audience to the Biblical era. It is needless to say that the show presented by Vijayawada-based JMJ Natyamandali highlighted the emotional bondage and love between two brothers. Followed by social play Assarabhasarabha was about the tragic story of a woman who falls victim to her husband’s atrocities and how she takes revenge on those harming women, through a child.
This apart, Seethakokachilaka a children social play and Shh silence a social play was also staged on Thursday. The four-day theatre festival has provided a rare opportunity to the people of the pilgrim city to witness popular Padya Natakalu (mythological poetry dramas), social plays and children social plays by leading drama troupes from across the State enthralling them and also providing them the much-needed break from the routine life.
This time around, the NatakaSamajalu (production units) made good use of latest technology particularly in staging the mythological dramas making them more colorful and gripping the audience. Every day, the programme began with a PadyaNatakm, followed by a social play and in the evening two social plays to provide good entertainment to the audience.
