Banaganapalle: The much-hyped ‘Chandranna Sankranti Kanukalu’ are now returning to godowns after the non-distribution. These essential commodities, which were being sold at higher prices in market are surprisingly had a few takers. The AP government launched the scheme to distribute wheat flour, red gram, ghee, jaggery etc to the poor on the occasion of Sankranti.

After lukewarm response from people, the remaining stock is being transported to civil supply godowns at Banaganapalle and Kovelakuntla. According to sources, so many reasons were cited for the failure of the scheme. Technical glitches like failing to access the fingerprints and unavailability of beneficiaries affect the distribution.

Apart from that the low-quality goods were refused by many people. Dealers of these areas are returning the leftover goods to the Civil Supplies department.

“Collecting goods from the godown and returning if anything is leftover has become a burden on us. We are not even paid the transportation charges,” a dealer lamented. While narrating the experience another dealer said, “This time the goods lack quality. People openly refused.” The dealers complain that the server failed so often making the beneficiaries to wait for hours together.

It is to be recollected that the Chief Minister himself expressed dissatisfaction over the implementation of the scheme during the recent cabinet meet.
