Hyderabad: Reacting to the series of violent incidents that took place at Tuni town in East Godavari district, Director General of Police J V Ramudu said whoever is responsible for the ghastly incidents will not be spared.

The DGP said that the organisers of Kapu Garjana had permission only to hold a meeting in Tuni but invited people from all the districts of the State. However, everything was under control, until people tried to lay siege to the road and also stopped a train and burnt it.

Passengers in the train escaped unhurt, but the railway policemen were injured in the attack, he said. Denying the allegations of provocation by police led to the attack, the DGP said “We tried not to react to the situation even when they hurled stones at top police officers.

A policeman is severely injured and his health condition is very critical.” With staff of Tuni police station on bandobust duty at the meeting, the miscreants took advantage of it and set the police station on fire and burnt down police vehicles.

“Some political parties are trying to disturb law and order in the State for their personal gains, which is not acceptable. Several policemen and media personnel were attacked and suffered injuries.

Only some persons of a media group did not face any attack by the mob,” the DGP said adding that cases will be booked and all the responsible persons will be arrested.
