Visakhapatnam: Partnership Summit, which was conducted last month and ensuing International Fleet Review commencing from February 4, has become a boon to some areas in the city normally scoffed at by the people.

The biggest beneficiary has been the Chavulamadam junction, which was once famous red-light area and houses the entire stink and filth of the port and other parts of the old city.

People close their eyes and nose and pray to God to quicken the passage through the junction as they have to pass through the city’s oldest crematorium. During monsoon, the entire area comes under a sheet of storm water and remains till the rainy season was over.

But thanks to the IFR, entire area has been cleaned, silt and garbage disappeared and the walls of Railway Bridge which were never painted have been decorated with paintings.

The young Commissioner of GVMC, who has taken it as a big challenge to beautify the city, did not spare areas like Chavulamadam. The other reason could be Prime Minister Narendra Modi might pass through the area during the fleet review. The Prime Minister would be camping at Naval Base and en route IFR village and the RK Beach might pass under the bridge.
