Vijayawada / Guntur: Various BC associations have been opposing the move to include Kapus in the BC list. In the light of recent violence-marred Kapu Garjana, these associations have been pretty vocal in their stance. In separate media conferances held in Vijayawada and Guntur on Wednesday representatives of BC Welfare Association and BC Sankshema Sangham strongly opposed the move.

The BC Welfare Association demanded the State government to release a white paper on how it will include Kapu’s into backward classes without disturbing reservations. Talking to the newsmen in Vijayawada, BC Welfare Association State president D Rama Rao said that inclusion of Kapus would dilute the spirit of reservation made for BCs.

Echoing the same, BC Sankshema Sangam working president A Vara Prasad launched a tirade against all political parties supporting the inclusion of Kapus into the Backward Classes, particularly the Telugu Desam and the YSRCP parties in Guntur.Opposing the move, he announced a series of agitations including storming of District Collectorates throughout the State on February 4, BC castes meeting at Ongole on February 15, BC castes Round Table at Vijayawada on February 27 and BC Rana Bheri in the second week of March in the State capital.

“The State government should initiate measures in dispelling the doubts of BC leaders about the inclusion of Kapu’s or else BC’s would agitate over the issue,” the BC leaders threatened. They flayed TDP government for unilateral decision to include the Kapus in the BCs.

“Majority of the BC’s are lagging behind on all fronts with delay in the implementation of assured promises by the government for their socio and economic improvement,” they lamented. The leaders added that Kapu community is not qualified to be included in the socially, culturally and economically backward communities.
