Vijayawada: A bouquet of colourful programmes marked the 62nd college day celebrations of Andhra Loyola College here on Saturday. Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Vijayawada Rev T Joseph Raja Rao who is chief guest for the celebrations, said that Loyola College had earned a good brand image by virtue of its academic standards.

He called upon students to develop a creative and entrepreneurial spirit instead of merely acquiring bookish knowledge. He said that the present generation was very fortunate to have modern and advanced tools of teaching. It was now the duty of the students to acquire the best skills and contribute their best to the country.

Principal of the college Fr G A P Kishore presented the annual report and said that the ALC was conducting many innovative programmes and there was a special focus on re-orienting the students to practical learning methods.

Students presented a variety of cultural programmes in instrumental music, dance, skits and playlets. ‘Aartanaadam’ Telugu playlet written and directed by college faculty KV Vijaya Babu enthralled the students on the occasion.

Later, the chief guest felicitated the toppers in academics and winners of various sport events and other competitions. Correspondent of the college Fr S Raju, Rector Fr D Tavi Sekhar, vice-principal of degree college Fr Melchior and other faculty members were present on the occasion.
