Guntur: State Women Cooperative Finance Corporation chairperson P Anuradha hinted at streamlining the corporation as well its activities and introduce more useful schemes for women. She distributed 'She Autos' to women beneficiaries as part of their self-employment scheme and assured to work with agencies which are sending women to Gulf countries to ensure safety and security at their place of work.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Anuradha said that an action plan will be prepared within a month after studying the state of affairs of the corporation.

Steps will be taken to make the finance corporation vibrant and pro-active in catering to the requirements of women and introduce new schemes that would help women to financially empower themselves.

Unmindful of the meagre budget allocated to the finance body which only covers staff salaries, she said "The corporation does not have funds to implement new schemes or training programmes but we will apprise the Chief Minister of its present position and place before him an action plan to revive the Mahila Pranganams which does not have funds or work" and added that the staff does not have work to do in the absence of funds.

She promised to strive for the revival of Mahila Pranganams founded by former chief minister late N T Rama Rao in all districts. During the first stint of TDP's rule in the 1980's and 90's the Mahila Pranganams were brimming with life and lot of activities were taken up then.

During the 10-year Congress rule the Mahila Pranganams had become almost defunct. The Mahila Pranganams have decent and spacious infrastructure including buildings for training and staff quarters. These will be utilised best hereafter, she maintained.

The chairperson said that she had visited the Pranganams in Krishna and Guntur districts and corporation would work with skill development corporation, DWACRA women and DRDA's to train women for jobs and self-employment ventures as well as for upgrading their skills.

Women who desire to set up their own industries can also do it. They would be given Rs 25 lakhs for setting up a small scale unit. Admitting that the corporation was running with a deficit of Rs 13,000 crore, but assures all efforts to bring it out of the financial mess.
