Visakhapatnam: The Commisisoner fo AP Prohibition and Excise Mukesh Kumar Meena seems to be determined to stem exploitation of tipplers by thousands of liquor shops in the State as they are found selling booze over the MRP rates.

He says the government will connect all the 4,000-odd liquor shops in to the excise department by introducing an integrated computer network to bring in transparency in liquor trade and ensure that the liquor sold at MRP price in all the licensed outlets from March 1.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday after the State-level conference of the Prohibition and Excise department, Meena said the retailers have been violating the norms by collecting more than the MRP which is rampant in Visakhapatnam and many towns in the State. Negligence among his staff is so blatant that only seven shops out of the 4,000 shops were found to be charging more than MRP.

Majority of the liquor outlets in the State were installed with computers and some were linked to the integrated network. As per the system, the computer network would be connected to the district and State head offices of the department and the top officials of the department will able to access to the information on flow of liquor from the AB Beverages Company Limited to liquor outlets and sale in each shop of the State daily.

“We have instructed the shop owners to follow the new system from March 1 and also give receipts to the consumers mentioning the prices of the all brands of liquor at the sale counter and the same should be uploaded on the network before delivery of the spirit to the consumer,’’ Meena said.
