Vijayawada: The ‘Bus Yatra’ taken out by the members of Andhra Pradesh Students Association United Front took brief halt at Satavahana Degree College in the city on Monday. The Yatra was kick started at Hyderabad Central University (HCU) in the wake of Dalit Scholar Rohit Vemula suicide.

Addressing the gathering, NSUI State president Parasa Rajiv Ratan said that Bus Yatra will visit all the government universities in Andhra Pradesh with an aim to sensitize youngsters about widespread prevalence of caste-based discrimination in our society and how it is destroying our democratic fabric.

He demanded the resignations of Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani and Minister of Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya from the Union cabinet. They also want the sacking of Prof P Appa Rao from the UoH vice-chancellor's post.

Later the Bus Yatra travelled to Eluru and will culminate into a meeting at Visakhapatnam on February 17. AISF State secretary Viswanth, PDSU State secretary A Ravi Chandra, SFI State vice president M Mahesh and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
