Atmakuru (Kurnool): People of the district bid a tearful farewell raising ‘Veer jawan amar rahe’ slogans as the brave son of Parnapalle – Mushtaq Ahmed – was laid to rest with full military honours in Parnapalle on Tuesday. The soldiers fired five times in air as a mark of respect for the deceased soldier. It may be recalled that Mushtaq Ahmed died recently in the avalanche while guarding the nation’s frontiers at high-altitude Siachen.

The mortal remains reached the village in the early hours of Tuesday. The military played a ceremonial band on Tuesday morning. The mourners placed wreaths on the mortal remains as a mark of respect for the brave son. Later, it was taken to the burial ground in a procession.

Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy, MLC Chakrapani Reddy and district Collector Ch Vijayamohan paid rich tributes to Mushtaq Ahmed. Assuring the bereaved family all support on behalf of the State government, the deputy Chief Minister presented a cheque for Rs 25 lakh to Mushtaq’s widow Naseemunnisa at Parnapalle.

Krishnamurthy said that a suitable government job would be given to the widow depending on her educational qualifications posting her at the place of her choice. A residential plot measuring 300 square yards would be given to the family either at Kurnool or Nandyal. He pledged the government’s support to the family in case of any need.

YSRCP president Jaganmohan Reddy consoled the widow Naseemunnisa and the soldier’s parents and assured his support to the family. All 10 MLAs of the YSRCP in the district, including Srisailam legislator Budda Rajasekhara Reddy, and MP Renuka took part in the funeral.
