Hindupur: Film actor and local MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna asserted here on Saturday that he would organised the Lepakshi Festival to reflect the country’s glorious culture and traditions. Its conduct would be ‘historic’. Speaking to the media after unveiling the festival logo and releasing a sky balloon along with Minister Paritala Sunitha, he stated that the event would be organised on February 27 and 28.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his Deputy K E Krishnamurthy would attend the inaugural and closing functions respectively. Balakrishna announced that prominent politicians and film personalities from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka would be taking part in the festival. The event would be preceded by a cycle rally on February 23 from Kodikonda check-post to Nandi statue and a heritage run from the statue to the festival venue on February 27.

He listed the events to be organised during the two days would include plays, dances and cultural items presented by film artistes, besides local performers. On the opening day there would be a ‘Dramotsavam’, ‘Sahasra Deepalankarana’ in a local temple, a performance by prominent drummer Sivamani. Among the participants would be several Central and State Ministers, legislators from the district, besides Telangana Minister A Chandulal, and several Karnataka Ministers. The film star promised to take all steps for promoting tourism and to develop the district. Later he unveiled NTR’s statue at Ambedkar Circle. Among those present were Joint Collector B Lakshmikantham, BC Corporation Chairman Ranganayakulu, Municipal Chairperson Lakshmi.
