Tirupati: The Left party leaders criticised Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his failure to press the Centre accord special category status and packages to backward areas in the State.

Addressing the meetings on the second day of Rayalaseema Bus Yatra campaign, on Sunday at Madanapalli, Punganur, Palamaner, Bangarupalem and Chittoor, the Left leaders, including from the CPM and CPI, accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of genuflecting before the Centre, to keep his position safe, ignoring the State interests.

They wanted him to join hands with the Left parties if he is really interested on the State development to exert pressure on the Centre to get special status and packages. CPM State secretariat member V Krishnaiah said that Naidu though belonging to Chittoor district had betrayed it by cancelling the Kandaleru water supply scheme aimed at providing drinking water supply to the villages and towns in 45 mandals in Chittoor district and not exerting pressure on the Centre to provide special package to Rayalaseema.

Citing meagre allocation of Rs 200 crore for Handri-Niva project works, he said that Naidu instead of completing the projects in Rayalaseema on a priority basis, allocated about Rs 1,500 crore for Pattiseema to safguard his position at the cost of the people of the backward region.

CPI State leader P Haranatha Reddy spewed venom on the NDA government for not fulfilling the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act passed in Parliament before the bifurcation of the State. Other leaders, including Obula Konda Reddy, Rama Naidu spoke, against the Chief Minister’s Amaravati centric approach and said that the TDP government is focusing only on the development of capital city, leaving other areas more so in Rayalseema in the lurch.

The bus yatra which took off on Saturday at Tirupati covered GD Nellore and SR Puram on the second day on Sunday before halting at Puttur.

On Monday, the bus yatra is scheduled to cover the places, including Puttur, Nagari, Satyavedu, Srikalahasti, Yerpedu and Renigunta in Chittoor district, before entering Koduru in Kadpa district, said CPM State Committee member K Murali.
