Rajahmundry: All steps are being taken to allocate houses for the eligible in transparent manner and houses would be allotted under Central government housing scheme on lottery basis, Rajahmundry Municipal Commissioner V Vijayaramaraju stated here on Thursday. He made it clear that a survey was conducted making sure that past mistakes would not repeat.

Speaking to reporters, Vijayaramaraju mentioned that 42,000 applications were received through Prajavani and Janmabhoomi were shortlisted to 18,000. He informed that the Centre has allotted 4,200 houses for the city and 1,300 houses have been earmarked for the people who lost the homes in Rajahmundry rural mandal. He maintained that list of the beneficiaries would be announced on Saturday and Sunday in respective divisions.

Persons who have obtained house in the past or having own houses were not eligible. He warned criminal action against such persons. He explained that houses would be constructed in multistoried buildings and facilities like cellar and lift would be provided.

The Commissioner maintained that Kala Jatha shows would be presented in front of houses of bigwigs whose dues were pending in large scale with respect to house and water charges. He added that top 21 list of defaulters in every division has been prepared. He informed that property tax to the tune of Rs 23 crore has been collected and Rs 14 crore still pending. He announced that March 31 is the last date for the payment of taxes. He warned that criminal cases would be filed against persons who fix motors to water taps.

Similarly, numbers with designs made by the Municipal Corporation must be printed on advertisement boards. He announced that encroachments in cellars would be removed before March 26 and added that most of the owners have agreed to remove encroachments voluntarily.
