Nellore: Union Ministers who witnessed dedication of power units in Muthukur mandal on Friday assured Centre’s fullest cooperation to the power units in future for the progress of the State. Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar addressing a public meeting at a Genco Plant at Nelaturu in Muthukur mandal on Saturday, assured that the Centre would give environmental clearance for Amaravati by March.

He said that the Centre had cleared environmental clearances for 26 thermal plants with 26,611 MW, 6 hydroelectric plants with 3,628 MW and out of them, 11 are located in Nellore with 15,846 MW, which is the highest in the country. He said development would not be possible without power and added that the Centre had sanctioned 54 projects for AP. He said Nellore would be a model for the entire country in achieving self-sufficiency in power generation and other States need to follow its footprints.

Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal praised the efforts of the State government in making the State power surplus. He said that they would sanction one lakh energy efficient pumps to farmers in the country, enabling them to conserve energy in the next three years. He said AP stood first in energy conservation as the LED bulbs replaced conventional lights in all households. He further said that AP is the first State to join Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY).

He said during the last 18 months, 71 per cent additional transmission capacity has been generated and the Union government has achieved 60 per cent working capacity of power plants and has a target of 90 per cent working capacity which will be achieved in near future.

Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu said the Centre would extend all-possible assistance for the benefit of Andhra Pradesh. He said the Centre is taking measures to curb pollution. He said out of 3.50 lakh urban houses earmarked for the country, about 1.93 lakh houses were sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh. Union Minister YS Chowdary and others were present.
