Visakhapatnam: Right To Education Forum demanded the State government to focus on children education by bringing reforms in primary and higher education.

Member of Legislative Council from North Andhra Graduates Constituency MVS Sarma told reporters here on Wednesday that National RTE Forum has been working for implementation of the Act effectively at the national-level, while the APRTE Forum is conducting various awareness programmes to sensitise the people in the State.

Giving specific suggestions to the government, the MLC asked to allocate sufficient budget to provide free education from KG to PG, 10 per cent of the State budget for primary and secondary education sectors.

Furthermore, he gave following suggestions: Amendment of Act allowing free and compulsory education to all those below 18 years, readmission of the drop-outs in schools after providing alternative employment to their parents, construction of toilets, providing protected drinking water and security to school children in the age group of 6-14 years as per the Act, equal education facilities in SC, ST and BC welfare residential schools, maintaining student-teacher ratio to help contain drop-out rate, setting up of Nutrition Mission, establishment of Anganwadi centres to cater to the needs of all areas, filling up of the posts of teachers and mandal educational officers and withdrawal of the proposals of closing some schools for lack of strength.
