AP Agriculture minister Prathipati Pulla Rao on Thursday presented Agriculture Budget 2016-17 for the sector with a total outlay of Rs 16,250.58 crore. Addressing the AP Assembly, Prathipati Pulla Rao said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu specifically focused on the budget to address the concerns of state farmers.

The Agriculture Minister stated that the government's main focus is on large scale promotion of farmer producer organisations taking into count 10 lakh producers in agriculture, dairy, aquaculture and horticulture sectors. In order to enhance the productivity, profitability and the production for the marginal farmers in the state, the Minister informed that the government would mobilise farmers into groups at village level further federating them into FPOs thus infusing technology and converting farming into a business proposition.

Pulla Rao took up the horticulture sector stating that it has been identified as the growth engines by contributing Rs 41,478 crore to the state's economy in the previous budget and also added that an outlay of Rs 369.58 crore has been allotted to implement micro irrigation under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana in 2016-17.
