Anantapur: Kapu Runa Mela that was organised by Kapu Corporation became an arena for a galaxy of Ministers, who reiterated the government’s commitment for the community, apart from lambasting YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Self employment loans worth Rs18 crore were disbursed to 3,000 beneficiaries from Kapu, Balija, Telaga and Ontari communities, here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu constituted Kapu Commission, which is exploring possibilities of including the Kapus in the BC's. “The Runa Mela for the Kapus is aimed at economic empowerment of the Kapu, Balija, Telaga and Ontari communities.

In the budget Rs 1,000 crore have been allocated to Kapu Corporation. Despite resources crunch, the CM is doing justice to all communities,” he added and appealed to the people against being carried away by the opposition propaganda. BC Welfare Minister Kollu Ravindra described the Kapu Runa Mela as a unique programme and blamed Congress party for the backwardness of Kapu community.

“Kapus until 1956 were a part of backward classes. The status was withdrawn by the successive Congress governments,” he added. Civil Supplies Minister Paritala Sunitha hoped that all the 15,000 persons identified as eligible for the loans would be covered in phased manner. Lambasting Mudragada, she questioned his credentials as the sole champion of the community.

Information and IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy took a dig at the opposition leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for working day and night to defame Chief Minister, who is working for the upliftment of all communities. Kapu Corporation chairman Chelamalasetti Ramanjaneyulu said that Kapu leaders of the past including Mudragada Padmanabham paid lip service to the community.

“The State government is now working to empower all communities and to include the new castes into B C Corporation without affecting the interests of the Backward Classes,” he added and accused YS Jaganmohan Reddy of dividing castes. Several MLAs, MLCs, Kapu leaders and district officials were also present.
