Amaravati: With the State government proposing to set up a port in Vanpic lands to develop the port under Sagarmala scheme, a feasibility study will be conducted soon to know whether the particular place is suitable for the construction of the port or not. After getting a feasibility report, the government will start the port construction works.

It may be recalled here that the government has proposed port construction for the development of the region. The government has also taken steps to revive water transport in the Buckingham canal.

Director of ports V Ravi Kumar said “First, experts team will conduct a feasibility study to check whether the particular place is suitable for the construction of the port or not. Later, an agency called ‘RITES’ will conduct a techno-feasibility study and submit a report to the government, he said.

Based on the report, the government will take a decision, he added.According to sources, Vizag Port Trust chairman M T Krishna Babu had already expressed his willingness to construct the port in Vanpic lands. The government had decided to develop ports on Public-Private Partnership mode, sources added.

District Collectors started denotifying Vanpic lands in a phased manner in Guntur and Prakasam districts. The government started land identification process for Ramayapatnam Port in Prakasam district. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) too had taken up Throvagunta-Kattipudi double lane road work and started land acquisition.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that some entrepreneurs eyed Vanpic lands to set up tyres factory and chemical industries. They visited Dindi, Adavuladeevi, Kottapalem, Nizampatnam and Mollagunta villages and interacted with the locals.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his election campaign in 2014, assured that he would set up industries in Vanpic lands to generate employment opportunities to the youth. MLA Anagani Satya Prasad announced that he would put all efforts to develop the area.
