Vijayawada: Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said that he is proud to be a Telugu man and prefers to wear the traditional Pancha. The Minster was responding to CPI leader K Narayana’s recent remarks on his traditional outfit. Narayana at Kanhaiya Kumar’s recent meeting in the city, said, “Venkaiah Naidu should wear trouser, or people will beat him till his Pancha drops, for his for his neutral stand on JNU and HCU issues.”

Venkaiah Naidu had some strong reply to the left parties who have been attacking the ruling party for recent incidents in the universities. He said, communist parties have no future in the country. He was surprised that a person was attacked for shouting a slogan ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, in a recent meeting in Vijayawada. These were the same words that Bhagat Singh said before he was hanged, he said.

Referring to recent developments in University of Hyderabad and Jawaharlal Nehru University, the Minister pointed out that some forces are trying to pollute the students in institutes. Addressing a meeting organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on ‘unity of nation’ here on Saturday, the Union Minister said, 735 of the 740 universities are peaceful.

Recent issues emerged only in five universities where the left parties are trying to create troubles, he said. The Minister said, he was surprised Modi government is being blamed for Rohit Vemula’s death. Instead of criticising Modi, they should inquire the reasons that lead to Rohit’s suicide, he said.

Venkaiah Naidu said that Rahul Gandhi had no time in the past 10 years when 11 students committed suicide. But now he is trying to get sympathy of students. He said that Kanhaiya Kumar met Rahul Gandhi before visiting the State. Earlier, BJP leader Kanna Lakshminarayana said that some parties are trying to infuse the principles of China, Russia and Pakistan in the country. These parties are trying to create unrest among students for political gain. Rahul Gandhi developed unrest seeking power, he said.
