Tirupati: The prestigious national-level institution Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) will increase its intake of students and also start admission for research from this year, according to IISER (Pune) Director Prof KN Ganesh and in-charge of IISER, Tirupati.

Speaking to The Hans India on the sidelines of the national conference conducted by Sri Venkateswara University’s Chemistry department here on Monday, Ganesh said that it has been decided to increase the admission of students from this academic year to 75 as the IISER Tirupati is having adequate infrastructure facilities including faculty and lab.

Prof Ganesh said additional equipment and facilities were being set up for taking up the admission of students for research in four branches Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics from this academic year.

Informing that the IISER Tirupati will function in its temporary campus located in Sri Rama Engineering College till the construction of new building is completed in the land allotted at Yerpedu mandal, he said that the finalisation of the building plan will be taken up by the new Board of Directors appointed by the MHRD soon.

Ganesh lauded the State government for handing over 240 acres to IISER at Yerpedu mandal, without any delay, for taking up the construction of the permanent building to locate the national-level institution in Tirupati area.

“Construction of compound wall is going on briskly,” he said adding that Tirupati IISER campus will be the biggest one, area wise among the five IISERs in the country. He said registration of Tirupati IISER under Indian Societies Registration Act was over and its emblem was also released on Sunday coinciding with its first anniversary here. The Tirupati IISER was inaugurated on March 26, 2015 by Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
