Amaravati: Padma Shri recipient and alumni of Guntur Medical College Alla Gopala Krishna Gokhale felt that there was a need to render super specialty medical services in all government hospitals in the state. He received Padma Shri from the President Pranab Kumar Mukherjee on Monday in Delhi.

He said, he has made all the arrangements to perform heart transplantation in the GGH in Guntur and waiting for brain dead person to donate heart. He said in Karnataka, some government medical colleges are collecting 40 percent of the fees charged by the corporate hospitals for performing heart surgeries and heart and kidney transplantation.

When there is competition, the corporate hospitals will also reduce fee for heart surgeries and heart transplantation and kidney transplantation. He felt that there was need to create awareness on organ donation in the state. He said that the corporate companies may bear medical expenses for poor patients for performing heart surgeries in the government hospitals under the Corporate Social Responsibility scheme. He said, as an alumni of GMC, he had performed 160 heart surgeries in the GGH in Guntur city.
