Jammalamadugu (Kadapa): Panchayat Raj officials are in a hurry for laying of cement concrete roads in 15 mandals in the district within two days as District Collector NV Ramana gave instructions to them to complete the works by March 31, 2016. But, the villagers are raising question about the quality of roads. Insufficient sand is posing problem for completion of road works as the government restricted transportation of sand. But, the Panchayat Raj officials and Sarpanches are confident of completing road works in a stipulated time.

It may be noted here that Rs 7.61 crore worth of works were sanctioned for laying of CC roads in 36 km in 15 mandals few months back. However, works were going at snail’s phase in several mandals due insufficient sand supply, labour shortage and non-clearance of pending bills. The CC roads were sanctioned for the mandals of Jammalamadugu, Peddamudiyam, Mylavaram, Muddanur, Kondapur, Erraguntla, Proddatur, Rajulapalem, Pulivendula, Lingala, Simhadripuram, Thonduru, Vempalle, Vemula and Chakrayapeta. As the laying of roads getting delayed, the Collector has instructed the Panchayat Raj officials to complete the works by March 31. Officials have speeded up the works in all mandals to meet the target set by the Collector.

Panchayat Raj executive engineer Narasimha Reddy said they have completed Rs 5.01 crore worth of works in several mandals and the remaining works worth Rs 2.60 crore will be completed within two days. The official said that the government will sanction the bills only after quality was confirmed by the quality control department. But, the villagers are questioning how the officials will give quality assurance to roads if they were laid within two days.
