The representatives of USS, who were busy making arrangements for organising Odisha Formation Day on Friday (April 1) to be followed by Odia Food Festival, told The Hans India here on Thursday that there is about five lakh Oriya people living in Vizag city, including in the industrial sector. They informed that Odisha was the first language-based State carved out in the country in 1936 and as responsible citizens of Odisha, they had set up Utkal Sanskrutika Samaj here in 1981 at Siripuram near AIR Station with the inspiration of luminaries like Madhusudan Das and Utkal Mani Gopa Bandu Das.
Chowdary said that the temple of Lord Jagannatha Swamy was built on the Samaj premises similar to the temple in Puri. He said that the Odisha State Formation Day and Jagannatha Swamy Radhotsav are being organised every year on a grand scale and the daily rituals to Lord Jagannatha Swamy will be conducted on the similar lines of Puri temple. About the funds being pooled up for the mega event, former vice-president Arun Das said that the Department of Cultural Affairs, Odisha will give some amount and send a cultural team for staging a performance. He said that mouth watering ethnic delicacies of Odisha-manda, kakara, chhenna poda, guguni and dahi bara and aloo dum- will be served at the food festival.
The Department of Cultural Affairs will be sending a dance team Lakshay from Bhubaneswar led by Kshanaprava Parida to perform on Friday. Samaj in-house artistes will stage an Odia play Niraba Jhada directed by Samaj vice-president R P Sahu besides invocation song Vande Utkal Janani will be rendered followed by Odissi, Sambalpuri and folk dances on the second day. C Rajendran will be the chief guest, NALCO general manager A K Murty, PF commissioner Sahu and others will attend the event on Friday. About other social activities of the Samaj, Arun Das informed that they were organising the Swachh Bharat Mission programme responding to the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, awareness programmes on environment protection and plantation.
