Nellore: Dissidence in local Congress leaders came to fore again in city with activists organizing two separate relay hunger strikes on Monday.
AP Youth Congress State secretary K Vinod Reddy planned to organise one-day hunger protest at Gandhi Statue on Monday for the alleged negligence of the State government in providing avenues to jobless in the State.
They alleged that the ruling TDP government had failed to provide employment, ignored issuing notifications for the groups and failed to solve the problems of the unemployed.
As usual, activists and congress leaders attended the event at Gandhi Statue and took part in one-day hunger strike as planned by Vinod Reddy in which city congress president U Venkata Rao, minority leader Shafti, senior congress leader CV Sesha Reddy and others took part.
But, interestingly, youth wing district president Balakrishna, who was appointed by the District Congress President Dr Panabaka Krishnaiah, and other leaders of rival group also organised a separate protest at VRC centre in which very few activists participated.
In fact, there has been rivalry between Vinod and Krishnaiah regarding appointments of chiefs for various municipal divisions. Vinod even lodged a complaint with PCC Chief N Raghuveera Reddy for not consulting him while taking up the process.
On Monday too, there was huge uproar by local Congress leaders and activists of various wings and city congress president Venkata Rao reportedly lodged a complaint with the PCC chief against Panabaka Krishnaiah for disregarding party leaders and violating party discipline.
Both Krishnaiah and Vinod were not available to comment on the developments when tried to contact them. Former Tirupati MP Chinta Mohan said he had not attended any of the protests on Monday and even his followers have not participated.
