Says he worked for casteless and egalitarian society

Participating in the 109th birth anniversary celebrations at the ZP Hall as the chief guest on Tuesday, Sunitha stated that Jagjivan Ram served as the Civil Supplies Minister as well as Defense Minister of the country. He was the hope of the weaker sections of the society for whose economic emancipation he strived for all his life.

She said that he worked for a casteless and egalitarian society and children should be educated about the greatness of such leaders. The Telugu Desam government in the State under the stewardship of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is committed to the welfare of the Dalits and other weaker sections of the society.

In the 2016-17, the social welfare budget is to the tune of Rs 3,236 crore while scholarships alone accounted for Rs 761 crore and the SC sub-plan is to the order of Rs 8,724 crore. All the social welfare schools have been converted into residential schools for improving the quality of education. Later, the Minister distributed cycles to 15 students on the occasion.

Hindupur MP Nimmala Kistappa lauded the role of Jagjivan Ram in the service of the oppressed Dalits. ZP Chairman Chaman called upon the participants to emulate a towering personality like Jagjivan Ram, who was the saviour of the Dalits. MLCs Samanthakamani and Geyanand and MLA Hanumantharai Choudhury were present.
