Jagjivan Ram remembered
Freedom fighter, social reformer, statesman and former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram, who had strived for the upliftt of the poor, will be remembered for generations together, observed Zilla Parishad Chairperson Lalam Bhavani. Addressing a gathering at an official meeting to mark the 109th birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram at the Zilla Parishad here on Tuesday.
Visakhapatnam: Freedom fighter, social reformer, statesman and former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram, who had strived for the upliftt of the poor, will be remembered for generations together, observed Zilla Parishad Chairperson Lalam Bhavani. Addressing a gathering at an official meeting to mark the 109th birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram at the Zilla Parishad here on Tuesday, Bhavani recalled that Jagjivan Ram rose to the highest position as he had valuable societal responsibilities to uplift the most suppressed and oppressed sections since his student days.
Paying rich tributes, she said that Babu had brought laurels to all the Cabinet posts he had handled at the Centre and called upon the youth to emulate such a great personality who served the nation. Local MP K Haribabu sang paeans on the late leader. Remembering his service to the nation, both the Centre and the State governments were celebrating Babu’s birth anniversary as an official event which will be a real tribute to him, he added.
BJP MLA P Vishnukumar Raju described it as a great day as the leaders of all the parties irrespective of political affiliations participated to pay homage to the great national leader. TDP MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar paying tributes to him said that though Babu was from a poor family, rose to the highest post at the Centre with his commitment and hard work.
