The Harbour Police on Saturday arrested two more persons of a gang, which allegedly involved in stealing six loads of iron blooms, each load weighing about 23 tonnes, from port area. The arrested were identified as B Demudu (30) and B Gowtham (23) and the police recovered Rs 2.5 lakh in cash from them. 

Visakhapatnam: The Harbour Police on Saturday arrested two more persons of a gang, which allegedly involved in stealing six loads of iron blooms, each load weighing about 23 tonnes, from port area. The arrested were identified as B Demudu (30) and B Gowtham (23) and the police recovered Rs 2.5 lakh in cash from them.

It may be recalled that six persons were arrested previously in the case and two more accused persons were at large. ACP (Crimes) Phalguna Rao said that the gang had stolen over 138 tonnes of blooms, worth about Rs 25.2 lakh and the police recovered 23 tonnes, worth about Rs 4.2 lakh and Rs 6.56 lakh in cash.

The ACP said that Srivalli Shipping Company was awarded the contract for transporting iron blooms from Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to Port area and from Port area to the shipment spot. Based on the information, the gang led by Seetha Reddy observed the movement of the transport operation and stolen the iron blooms in collusion with the drivers of the tractor trailers.
