Eleven people were killed on the spot in a freak road mishap near Nakkapalli in the district on Sunday. The accident occurred when a iron pipe-laden lorry trailer coming towards Vizag ran over a car that was overturned following the burst of its tyre which was later hit by a scooterist closely following the lorry.

Payakaraopet (Visakhapatnam): Eleven people were killed on the spot in a freak road mishap near Nakkapalli in the district on Sunday. The accident occurred when a iron pipe-laden lorry trailer coming towards Vizag ran over a car that was overturned following the burst of its tyre which was later hit by a scooterist closely following the lorry.

According to information, the car going towards Tuni from Vizag with nine people hit the road divider following the burst of its tyre and overturned on the other side of the national highway with the impact of the speed. At the same time, the iron pipe-laden lorry trailer coming towards Vizag dragged the overturned car to a distance of 20 meters before falling into a roadside canal killing all the nine people on the spot.

Meanwhile, the scooterist, Datla Chiranjeevi Raju, who was following the lorry with his seven-year-old son Anand Sagar Varma, hit it resulting in the death of Anand Sagar Varma. Severely injured Chiranjeevi Raju also died while being shifted to Vizag from Nakkapalli government hospital. Datla Chiranjeevi Raju is working with the Hetero Drugs Company.He hailed from Pedagummuluru village of S Rayavaram mandal.

On receipt of information, Narsipatnam RDO K Surya Rao, ASP Aiswarya Rastogi, Yelamanchili Inspector K Venkata Rao, Sub-Inspectors of Nakkapalli, Payakaraopet, Yelamanchili and staff rushed to the spot and took up relief and rescue operation for over three hours by deploying two heavy cranes and a tractor.

The nine people travelling in the car were identified as Eedalada Sreenu, 45 (driver), Devi, 30, Sai, 12 (girl), Sai, 14 (boy), Pavan, 9, Durga Aparna, 8, Kadiyam Padma, 40, Kadiyam Kumar, 20, and Nakka Venkata Lakshmi, 60. All these belong to Gandhinagar area near Butchirajupalem in Vizag city.

The mishap occurred when they were going to Talupulamma Lova temple near Tuni. The police cleared the vehicular traffic on the national highway. Post mortem was conducted on all 10 bodies at the Nakkapalli government hospital. High speed is the main cause of the car accident and a case has been registered.
